Bette Davis Scratch Board
Scratch board seems to be a dying art. If you’re an artist, and would like to try something new, scratch board is a great medium to experiment with.
This image of Bette Davis is one of my personal favorites. The original 11″ X 17″ image differed from most scratch board art because every single scratch was vertical. The challenge was to give dimension to what is usually a flat medium. I completed this piece in a short 30 hours.
If you are going to give this unique medium a try I would suggest using spending a little extra and buying Essdee brand scratch board. The surface is much softer and easier to control than student grade board which tends to be rough and causes control issues. This leads to frustration rather than enjoyment.
